competition project of the chapel in rome.
the task of architects was to develop the space of all religions and beliefs. the main architectural solution was to introduce the chapel into the environment, taking into account the existing buildings and the already located church. the new building should be on via julia in the historic part of the city. to preserve the existing routes, a pyramidal shape was created, the arrangement of the sides of which was justified by the streets surrounding the design site.
the materials and symbols used in the chapel embody the spiritual orientation and historical belonging to the place. a light stone is natural for the roman region; water is a powerful symbol in all religions, namely the symbol of life itself, purification and rest; communication with the outside world is represented by natural light with the help of an open atrium, the falling shadow from which as a pendulum moves along the internal crystal clear walls and indicates the transience of time; the mirror finish of the facades reflects the environment, thereby dissolving the building in it.
the layout of the structure is made so that the central axis of the building becomes an atrium and a ladder, surrounded by water on the lower floor. accomplishment consists of open amphitheaters and landscaping for more active recreation of citizens and visitors of the city.
